Casinos Sure Bet to Draw a Crowd

Eldorado Shreveport Casino illuminates the skyline.
You don’t have to hop a plane to Las Vegas to catch sight of Lady Luck. Shreveport and Bossier City offer Louisiana-style gambling at five riverboat casinos on the banks of the Red River.
Whether you’re a high roller looking for 24-hour excitement combined with small-town charm, or a local resident who simply wants to play the penny slots, Northwest Louisiana can be just the right place.
“We’re the only gaming destination in a very large radius,” says Jessica Hawkins, advertising and publications manager for the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau.
Isolated or small casinos can’t rival the experience that Shreveport-Bossier offers or the hospitality that visitors routinely remark upon, Hawkins says.
Visitors can book a room at any of the casinos’ luxury hotels or stay more inexpensively elsewhere in town.
One option is to embark on a night of fun at Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino, which has more than 1,100 slot machines and 30 table games, plus restaurants.
Another option is to visit the Eldorado Shreveport Casino, which features more than 1,430 slots and 60-plus table games, followed by a trip to the three-story entertainment pavilion’s restaurants and spa.
BOSSIER CITY’S CASINO SCENE
Then there’s Bossier City on the other side of the river. The Horseshoe Casino and Hotel beckons with more than 1,600 slot machines including video poker and video keno, and more than 50 table games.
At the casino’s Riverdome, headline performers in recent years have included Bonnie Raitt, Don Henley, Lee Ann Womack and Merle Haggard.
But the fun in Bossier doesn’t stop there. Boomtown Casino and Hotel offers 30,000 square feet of gaming space and four restaurants.
Rounding out the Vegas-like experience is DiamondJack’s Casino & Resort, which wows visitors with Caribbean-style casino action. There’s even a licensed child-care facility onsite.
Speaking of family, that’s one more thing that sets the Shreveport-Bossier gaming experience apart. The area has so much to offer that mom, dad and the kids can all go home happy – and, with luck, maybe a little richer.
