Minden Medical Center Ranks In Top 100 Hospitals
Published Mar 07, 2008

Solucient named Minden Medical Center one of the top-100 hospitals in 2004.

In a region with many large hospitals, Minden Medical Center distinguishes itself by being small.

The 154-bed community facility prides itself on offering more than 50,000 people the sophisticated services and technologies found in a much larger facility.

Minden Medical Center focuses on “High Five Guiding Principles,” No. 1 of which is delivering high-quality care. In 2004, Solucient named Minden one of the nation’s top-100 hospitals based on an independent analysis that measured quality of care, operational efficiency and financial performance.

The hospital offers emergency room services, general medical and surgical care, cardiology, obstetrics, physical rehabilitation and orthopedics services, oncology, a heart center, breast care, senior care and home care to parishes including Webster, Claiborne, Bienville, Lincoln, Jackson and Red River.

In 2006, Minden Medical Center had more than 17,000 emergency room visits, 29,086 outpatient visits and 5,133 admissions – all served by a staff of 465 employees and 75 physicians.

Chief Executive Officer George E. French III, who is in his 25th year at the hospital, cites staff and patient satisfaction for its national recognition. He also credits the constant upgrading of services to big-city standards.

The recognition is “a quality indicator toward our goal at Minden Medical Center,” French says. “Our selection is a result of consistent and enthusiastic focus on the part of employees and physicians to simply be the best hospital in the country.”

Toward that end, he has recruited well over 50 physicians over the years. They included specialists in general surgery, cardiology, internal medicine, pediatrics, hematology/oncology, neurology, spine, orthopedics, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology, urology, pulmonology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. On the technology front, the hospital in 2007 is adding a multimillion-dollar, 64-slice CT scanner.
