Louisiana Tech Connects Know-How to Community
Published May 18, 2009
Louisiana Tech University has been an education mainstay in Northwest Louisiana since 1894.
From a campus in Ruston, a city of 22,000 in Lincoln Parish known for its parks, lakes and hiking and biking trails, Louisiana Tech has developed a stellar academic reputation and a tradition of teaming faculty, students and the community.
Enrollment stands at nearly 11,000, with students coming from 46 states and 64 foreign nations.
The university’s five colleges offer more than 80 undergraduate and 40 graduate programs.
Louisiana Tech has established several academic and research centers, including the Center for Entrepreneurship and Information Technology, Center for Biomedical Engineering and Rehabilitation Science, and Center for Secure Cyberspace. Its Center for Economic Education promotes high-quality teaching of economics and consumer economics in elementary and high schools.
The Louisiana Tech Enterprise Center was founded in fall 2005 as the primary business support and development outreach arm of the university to promote growth of new and existing ventures in the I-20 corridor of Northwest Louisiana. The center houses the Louisiana Tech Technology Incubator and Technology Business Development Center.
Research is a major undertaking at Louisiana Tech, and university leadership has conceived the Enterprise Campus, a plan to connect the university and Ruston’s downtown with a series of research facilities occupied by technology companies.
The first component of that vision, a 41,000-square-foot building designed to support high-tech companies with a focus on information technology, cyber security and digital media, is moving toward ground breaking in 2009.
