Shreveport Must-Try: Herby K’s Shrimp Buster

When in Northwest Louisiana, eat at Herby K’s. Please note: I am not just saying “When in Shreveport …” on this one. If you are anywhere within the 10-parish area, or maybe even a bit beyond, go there. The restaurant has delighted diners with its infamous Shrimp Buster sandwich since 1936. I was fortunate to be taken there by some in-the-know local officials, and I have been thinking about the Baby Buster and onion rings I enjoyed there ever since. The restaurant itself definitely has a lot of character – don’t expect white table cloths. It’s one of those places that relies on its food and beverages alone, and holds its own quite well on that count. The Shrimp Buster is basically Herby K’s original take on a traditional po’ boy sandwich. I also hear the gumbo is divine.
