Shop Till You Drop at Louisiana Boardwalk
Published Apr 04, 2008
If you’re feeling the urge to shop, there are plenty of neat boutiques around Northwest Louisiana, and there will be more to come on those later. But I am going to start with the obvious, because despite my natural tendency to seek out independently owned small businesses, I still can’t resist the lure of the specific collection of national retailer outlets to be found in outdoor malls like the Louisiana Boardwalk along the Red River in Bossier City. Here’s specifically why I went: When I was in town, I had the pleasure of having lunch with a dear friend I’ve known since third grade, who now is a Shreveport resident. She had on a fabulous blouse that I coveted not only for its appeal but also because I hadn’t anticipated the weather being so warm and regretted the sweater I had packed. As good girlfriends will do, she told me exactly where she’d found it, which was at the Banana Republic outlet at the Boardwalk. In addition to Banana, you’ll find outlet shopping at stores such as Gap Outlet, Bath & Body Works, DKNY, Guess, Fossil, Adidas, Nike and Nine West, and there’s a massive Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World there, to boot. Plan to spend a lot of time checking out the offerings, and if you work up an appetite while doing so, there are eateries such as Copeland’s Cheesecake Bistro, San Francisco Oven, O’Brien’s Irish Pub & Restaurant and Coldstone Creamery just to name a few. Plus, it just makes you feel good to shop and dine at places that are engaged in the community. The management company at the Boardwalk is an active on that count, hosting several family-oriented events on major holidays throughout the year, such as Easter, St. Patrick’s Day and Mardi Gras.
