Robinson Film Center Provides Superior Showcase for Art
Published May 01, 2008
During my trip to Shreveport, I was honored to tour the new Robinson Film Center during its final stages of construction, and it was certainly shaping up to be one very cool place. Be sure to check out the video on this site, but by the time you read this, the place surely will be hopping. In addition to screenings of independent and foreign films that would not otherwise be shown here, there also is a hip space for drinks and dining upstairs. Thanks to this element, downtown professionals will benefit by having another great lunch spot. The center is just the latest component in a burgeoning arts scene downtown, just up the road from artspace, the Shreveport Regional Arts Council’s arts center on Texas Street. Robinson Film Center Executive Director John M. Grindley III provided the tour, and it was thrilling to see the coming-together of such an impressive showcase for organization’s film appreciation and education efforts. The new center, which officially opens with a gala on May 3, will certainly be a fitting complement to the city’s growing profile as a major player in the film industry.
